Mambo! 👋! Sorry this week’s edition is landing in your inbox on Thursday instead of Monday. A few things kept us busy, but we couldn’t let the week pass without bringing you the stories.

Last week, Alliance invested $500,000 in Kenya’s Cloud9, African startups raised $797 million in Q3 with Yellow Card among the big deals, Kredete secured a money transfer license in Ghana just after acquiring a stablecoin infrastructure company, and Kora launched stablecoin payments for businesses.

A lot is happening across Africa’s stablecoin economy. Let’s get into it!

The story

  • Alliance invested $500,000 in Kenyan fintech Cloud9.

The investment is part of Cloud9’s pre seed round, bringing its total funding to $1 million, alongside Techstars NYC and angel investors.

Cloud9 was founded by Tesh Mbaabu and Mesongo Sibuti, who previously co-founded social commerce startup Chpter. The company helps African businesses make cross border payments, using USDC and USDT behind the scenes to move money between countries.

Deals

  • African startups raised $797 million in equity funding in Q3 2026, the highest quarterly total in four years.

Stablecoin company Yellow Card’s $40 million raise was among the deals contributing to the quarter, another sign of growing investor interest in Africa’s stablecoin infrastructure.

Launches

  • Nigerian fintech Kora launched One Rail, bringing stablecoin payments to its existing payment network.

Businesses can now accept USDT and USDC, convert between supported currencies, and receive their money in bank accounts, mobile money wallets, or stablecoin wallets.

Another payment company adding stablecoins to the services businesses already use.

Regulation

  • Kredete secured a money transfer license in Ghana, just two weeks after acquiring a stablecoin infrastructure company.

The license allows Kredete to expand its money transfer services in Ghana as it builds a wider payments network across Africa using stablecoins.
