Mambo! 👋! South Africa now has a rand backed stablecoin.

Three months ago, Tanzania approved its first stablecoin fintech to explore a local TZS stablecoin.

And this Thursday, in Dar es salaam, Tanzania!  we’re bringing together the people building, regulating and watching this market for Mambo Stable #01. Register to attend.

Deals

  • No new stablecoin deal this week, so we’re looking back at Utila.

The stablecoin infrastructure company raised $22M last year and now processes around $15B in monthly volume.

This week, Utila was selected by Mesh as its stablecoin powered infrastructure partner, adding another major payments platform to its growing network.

Launches

  • Checker Partnered With Agridex to Expand Its Loam Payments Platform Across Africa.

Through Checker’s liquidity network, Loam will gain access to local liquidity and banking infrastructure as it enters new African markets.

The partnership also supports Loam’s expansion into Latin America, combining Checker’s regional liquidity network with Agridex’s global payments infrastructure.

As more global payment platforms expand into Africa, access to local liquidity and banking infrastructure is becoming just as important as the technology itself.

Regulation

  • Kenya’s Crypto Regulation Comes With a Price.

Kenya’s new crypto rules set different capital requirements depending on the business.

Tokenization providers need KES 10M ($77,300), while asset managers and ICO providers need KES 20M ($154,500).

Stablecoin issuers face a much bigger hurdle: KES 300M ($2.3M) in minimum paid up capital.

The rules could make tokenisation easier for smaller startups to enter, while putting stablecoin issuance firmly in the higher capital tier.

Kenya is opening the door to crypto, but not everyone gets the same size entrance.

Madini

  • Regulate it. Test it. Monitor it. Don’t ban it.

Mansu Technologies, the company behind Crypto Made Easy, has been admitted into Ghana’s SEC Virtual Asset Sandbox.

As virtual assets become harder to ignore, regulators have an opportunity to keep control while giving local companies room to build, prove their models and operate within clear rules.

From inside

  • Why 96 out of 100 stablecoin trades in its markets are UST, and why licenses, liquidity, and local payout infrastructure decide what stablecoins can actually do.
